OxAdSoc's founding committee run many events and created these two projects, The Agency and AdSpace, that allowed students to gain practical skills and experience on advertising and marketing:
The Agency was formed out of a desire from both The Careers Service and OxAdSoc to have students gain genuine, useful and productive experience working within an environment similar to a traditional creative agency. The Agency work on marketing focused projects. We are curating partners that need a creative solution to an intellectually challenging problem. Projects include working out a means to attract a different demographic to a book store, overhauling a company’s brand language or analysing the effectiveness of a previous advertising campaign with a view to implement a new strategy. Our teams don't deal in simple fixes but real situations currently being faced by businesses. After receiving training, teams are autonomous but with access to mentorship and guidance when required. All decisions, however, are be made by the teams. The whole scheme lasts one term, from training to solution implementation.
AdSpace is a project within OxAdSoc aiming to help student clubs, societies and theatre companies promote their events and productions, and at the same time offer hands on marketing experience to people interested in a career in the creative industries. Each week one society, event or production will be chosen to feature in AdSpace’s newsletter, social media and poster boards across the city of Oxford. The scheme enables exposure to larger audiences and a greater chance of beating the competition. The best posters and advertising concepts received for each week are selected. This we hope will encourage the creation of more imaginative and exciting advertising around Oxford.
